Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

We are ambitious for our students to excel in all their endeavours; both academically and through extra-curricular involvement. We have a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensuring a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘Strive, believe, achieve', ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

Head Teacher's Blog

  • Head Teacher's Blog - Friday 29th September This week has been a fantastic week for sport. I am of course proud of all of our students, however it is week’s like this where I am filled with pride and I am reminded of how great the passion and commitment of our staff and students is, in areas of education that are not always in the spotlight. The week started with the year 8 boys football team who so far have been unbeaten; they took on Christ the King College earlier this week and won 3-1. To top it off the boys then took on Toynbee school in the Hampshire Cup last night, and after a real nail biter drew 3-3 and won on penalties ...

  • Head Teacher's Blog - Friday 22nd September We have had another great week here at the Academy filled with a variety of events; we started the week off in good spirits after last week’s year 7 welcome BBQ. A big thank you to all who came along and to the staff who helped to make it such a fun event. On Tuesday, the Global Rock auditions took place. The cast list has now been published and can be found on our facebook page. We are really looking forward to showcasing the amazing talent that we have at Sandown Bay in dance, costume design, set production and sound/light engineering. It promises to be a great experience for all involved. Year 8’s enjoyed their first Inter ...

  • Head Teachers Blog - Friday 15th September It was great to meet parents and carers at the welcome events this week. If you were unable to make the meetings, you can view the information on our website (click here). Thank you to you as parents in working with us to ensure your child is in the best possible place to learn. Consistency of uniform standards and making sure that all of their equipment is with them and available has meant that a really purposeful start to the school year has happened and learning is evident for the students in their lessons. This will all add to the improvement agenda which we have by addressing the issues raised by OFSTED recently. I look forward to continuing to work ...
