Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

Our strong tradition of academic excellence and sporting success, coupled with a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensures a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘Strive, believe, achieve', ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 8th July Year 11 students have attended our Sixth Form Induction this week and enjoyed a wide range of subjects on offer at Sandown Bay Academy and Ryde Academy. Our current Year 12 students were superb roles models in showing the new students around the Academy and making them feel welcome. Year 11's experienced new subjects such as Philosophy, Psychology, Law, Sociology, Geology, Product Design, Citizenship and EPQ. Students also attended sessions including;  'Destination Driven; where they discovered websites to help with career options such as icould.com/sacu-student.com, learning about changes in the job market, skills sought by employers, UCAS and employment applications. I look forward to welcoming them back in September.   It was lovely to celebrate the ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 1st July Congratulations to the 23 students in Year 7 and 8 who celebrated excellent commitment to reading this week. They have all read over 1 million words in Accelerated Reader books. A special mention to Neve Rust who is one quiz away from reading 10 million words over her 2  years at SBA and Megan Hopkins who has read over 6 million words since September 2015.   Students braved the rain for sports day this week; most of the events were completed before the heavy rain set in. We will announce which house won once the sprint and relay events have been done.  Well done to the Key Stage 3 Drama Club for their sharp, witty, pithy adaptation of Othello this week ...
