Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

Our strong tradition of academic excellence and sporting success, coupled with a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensures a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘To make our best better’, ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 29th April We are very keen to send our students on trips to Universities so they get an insight into the wide ranges of courses available in the future. This week a group of Year 10 students who are interested in careers in medicine spent the day at Southampton University looking at transition of disease and pathology. Year 9 students visited Portsmouth University on Wednesday for an ‘Introduction to Higher Education’ day. The group came away buzzing with excitement and aspiring to attend university.  Congratulations to our Young Enterprise team who presented their project this week at the island showcase at The Quay Arts Centre; although they were not overall winners, they received recognition for their website, presentation and resilience and innovation ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 22nd April Students from Years 8-10 enjoyed an STEM Go4Set day at Southampton Oceanography Centre this week. The day was focussed on engineering and set students a number of challenges, including building a tower to hold a golf ball out of spaghetti and jelly babies. I watched the Performing Arts Variety Night on Wednesday in amazement, our students are awesome! What an incredible show they put on with students from across all age groups and showcasing talent in Dance, Drama and Music. It was great to see so many students at Year 7 Inter House Capture the Flag competition this week. • Principal's Blog - Friday 15th April It was great to see so many Year 11 students attending revision sessions over Easter. The countdown is on with only a few weeks until the exam season starts. Students should be ensuring they attend as many after school revision sessions as possible; every session will help. We were delighted to welcome 20 Thai students to the Academy this week. They are here for two weeks and have been allocated a buddy from SBA. The student buddies have done a fantastic job at making them feel welcome and I am sure that these friendships will keep going long after they depart. Thank you to ex-student and Golf Professional Mark Bell who came in to do some taster golf sessions ...
