Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

Our strong tradition of academic excellence and sporting success, coupled with a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensures a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘To make our best better’, ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 24th June Students in all year groups across the Academy have been voting to leave or remain in the EU as part of a series of assemblies this week focusing on the EU referendum. A group of Year 10Citizenship students led the assemblies. They put forward arguments for and against leaving the EU based around 4 themes they felt students would relate to: ·         Immigration ·         Trade ·         Education ·         Global Defence At the end of the assembly students were asked to vote Leave or Remain. Sandown Bay Academy students voted overwhelmingly to stay in the European Union. I was really impressed with the students’ engagement in this topic and their willingness to ask some tough questions. Please come along and support our Drama Club ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 17th June I was delighted to attend Year 7 and Year 8 assemblies this week to present certificates to students for achieving 100% attendance in the last week before half term, and for students with an outstanding attitude to learning. It was indicative of the high standards the Year 7 and 8 students set for themselves that almost the whole year group were awarded a certificate. Well done, I hope to see even more students achieving this at the end of the summer term. A special mention for Tristan Allen who presented an excellent summary of the recent visit to Portsmouth Guildhall as part of the 'Teen Tech' initiative.  We welcomed Year 5 and 6 students into the Academy ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 10th June I was really impressed to see so many students in over half term attending revision and support sessions. Please continue to make the most of the support sessions put on by teachers during the busy exam period. A group of Year 8 students took part in the ‘Able Linguist’ event at Southampton University this week. In the morning they worked in groups with the other 140 students from across the South Coast. Their group task was to design an innovative piece of clothing and present it in a foreign language. Congratulations to Amber Jupe who was in the winning group. In the afternoon they took part in Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and German lessons. The students were a credit to the ...
