Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the

exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

Our strong tradition of academic excellence and sporting success, coupled with a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensures a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘To make our best better’, ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

Principal's Blog

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 12th February I was delighted to accompany some members of our debate club to The Quay Arts Centre on Wednesday evening where we watched the 2016 Youth Speaks competition. They were inspired watching the teams from other island schools and feel confident to enter next year. When summing up the competition Anna Morgan-Crockett from Cowes Rotary Club said, "The ability to speak in front of an audience is the most important thing a school can teach young people.” I agree with Anna, and would encourage more students to come along to debate club on a Wednesday lunch time in the meeting rooms.  I was incredibly impressed with the cupcakes made by Max in Year 10 this week. He brought me two ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 5th February Our Year 9 students represented the Academy and the island admirably this week at the launch of 'The Watermark Challenge'. Their challenge is to complete a project based on one of the biggest commercial developments in Southampton; this collaborative venture aims to increase students’ skills in teamwork, communication and presentation. Sandown Bay Academy is proud to be the only island school selected to take part. Our students now have a busy few weeks of preparation, research and creative thinking to ensure they are ready for the final presentation in the Board Room on 3rd March. You can read more about the challenge in this week’s newsletter.   House Leaders focused on the importance of British Values in their assemblies ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 29th January Thank you to the parents who came along to the Parent Forum meeting this week. It is very useful to have your feedback and input into new developments at the Academy. Mrs Adams, our Careers, Outreach & Work Experience Officer has been at an Erasmus conference this week, finding out about more about the Erasmus programme. This is an exciting inter-school project based around Science and Languages. We will share more information with you soon. A copy of the Year 9 options booklet is on its way home to Year 9 Parents and students along with instructions on how to complete the online choices form. If you have any questions or need any guidance with helping your child make their ...
