Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and take seriously our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.

We are ambitious for our students to excel in all their endeavours; both academically and through extra-curricular involvement. We have a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensuring a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘Strive, believe, achieve', ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

Principal's Blog

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 23rd September  Students in Years 8-11 completed a student voice activity this week and I was pleased to hear that the overwhelming majority said that behaviour in their lessons had been better this academic year and that they were able to concentrate more.  As we continue to drive forward high standards please reinforce the high expectations at home and continue to check what homework your child has been set on Show my Homework. A group of students from Year 10 spent an afternoon on the Natwest Business Bus this week. They took part in a Dragons Den activity where they had to think up and present a business idea to a group of experts on the bus. Congratulations to the winning ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 16th September I have been very impressed with the way that students have settled in their first full week back at the Academy. On the whole their behaviour and attitudes have lived up to the high expectations set by teachers. I have also been very impressed with uniform so please keep it up. Students have enjoyed the improvements around campus, after they got over the initial shock of the mobiles vanishing! Our site team worked incredibly hard over the summer months to complete all of the work. We are now looking forward to working with a renowned architectural and landscaping company to design the new quad area in the middle of the campus. If your child is a budding architect or has ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 9th September I was delighted to welcome back all of our students yesterday and to once again meet the new Year 7 students. It was great to see them looking so smart and ready for the year ahead. Our focus for the next fortnight is establishing high expectations with students. We will expect to see high standards in uniform, work ethic and participation in lessons and extra-curricular activities.  Please help us to support this by ensuring that your child comes to school every day in the correct uniform and with the right equipment to learn. You can view more photos on our Facebook page - click here In line with our theme of high expectations, we have created a new Academy motto ...
