Ethos, aims and values of the Academy

Principal's Welcome

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. We are ambitious for our students to excel in all their endeavours; both academically and through extra-curricular involvement. We have a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensuring a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our motto, ‘Strive, believe, achieve’, ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

Academies Enterprise Trust

Sandown Bay Academy is a key member of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET), the operational arm of the Greensward Charitable Trust, which is a federation of academies created to provide thousands of students/pupils with the best possible education.

AET aims to provide the opportunity for all young learners to fulfil their real potential, broaden their horizons and become active, prosperous and successful citizens in the world around them. AET believes that all young people deserve to become world class learners - to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment, with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up to date resources available to them.

AET is committed to doing everything it can to ensure that young people are able to, in the future, compete on the world stage with the skills, confidence and flair to generate new ideas, new initiatives and thereby make a full contribution to tomorrow's world.

Mission Statement - “Our duty is to inspire young people to make their best better.”

Vision Statement - “To help students achieve world class learning outcomes by developing world class teachers in a world class community.”

Underpinning the AET vision is the commitment to the five key outcomes of the Every Child Matters agenda. At AET Academies, these will be based upon a set of Values and Beliefs. Through our actions and behaviours we will strive to develop young people who:

  • respect themselves and the community, i.e. people, property, the environment, and seek to have a positive impact on society.
  • are polite, calm, caring, honest, trustworthy and helpful.
  • are responsible, independent and supportive of each other.
  • are tolerant, open minded and not prejudiced.
  • are determined and have a strong work ethic.
  • will be thoughtful and compassionate with the ability to listen and challenge in a considerate fashion.
  • have good communication skills.
  • offer themselves as good role models for future generations of learners and citizens.
  • can demonstrate strong self-belief and confidence and have high aspirations.
  • are team players who can work and support others and where necessary are able to take leadership roles.
