On Monday 17th December, 8 Sixth Form pupils from Sandown Bay Academy travelled over to Southampton Solent University to compete in the ‘High Performance Academy College Fitness Challenge’.
There were 14 colleges competing in a gruelling 8 event competition, with activities testing all areas of physical fitness. All 8 pupils from each team had to take part in each of the 8 events and every single score counted towards the overall team total.
Alongside the ‘team event’, the organisers awarded the top 3 boys and girls from the competition individually. Out of the 54 boys, Jack Wedderkop came third, and out of the 54 girls, Polly Hopper also came third- which on their own were a huge success!
After they announced the individual awards they started to name the overall team winners in descending order from 14th place. Our team was hoping for a top 10 finish with a possibility of reaching the top 5. When our name hadn’t been called after the 3rd place team Ichin College, we started to think ‘surely not’……. Sandown Bay Academy were then announced as the ‘College Fitness Challenge Winners 2012’!
The team: Jack Wedderkop, Kemp Price, Zac Chiverton, Tom Dawson, Polly Hopper, Megan Williams, Amber Peirce and Lottie Grant.
