Sandown vs. Stanbridge Earls
Tuesday 13th November saw Sandown Bay Academy’s under 15 rugby team travel to Romsey-to play the second round of the Hampshire Plate rugby tournament. After leaving school at 11 o’clock, a rather uneventful journey saw the rugby team to the final destination. After 30 minutes or so of quick drills, warm up and a motivational speech by the coaches, it was time to play the match.
Only 5 minutes in and we were in serious trouble. Our hooker, James Stirling, was taken off with a suspected fracture to his right wrist (which was confirmed later that night at St. Mary’s). Reuben Lovell, who had never played that position before, stepped in. Unfortunately due to lack of space on the minibus we didn’t have any subs and were down to only 14 men for practically the enter game. With many blood substitutes at times we were concerned about the number of players we had.
However that didn’t stop us and after tries from Ed Copper (3 tries), Callum Kotstapos (2 tries), Jack Winter (1 try) and Harry Hopper (1 try), we were pretty sure of a win. Matt Miselbach scored 4 conversions and we comfortably won with a huge 43 points on the board.
There was some amazing counter rucking with many turn over balls; some fantastic runs allowed so many points to be scored. A huge well done goes to the team’s captain Callum Kotstapos and vice captain Matt Miselbach. A rare man of the match title was handed out to Reuben Lovell for filling in and playing brilliantly well considering all things. On behalf of the team I would like to thank Mr Miselbach and Mr Shane for their hard work, time taken to coach us and then to take us all there.
Well Done boys!!!
