Get lost in a book – parents of Year 7 and 8 students

At Sandown Bay Academy we take reading seriously.  We regularly get lost in a book.  We know that reading each day for 20 minutes makes a difference.  That is why we stop to read each day in lessons and/or tutor time.  You can help at home by reading to your child or asking them to read aloud to you.  Every student in Year 7 and 8 should have a reading book in school.  We ask that this book is on Accelerated Reader and then they can enjoy a quiz on the book.  However, when they read to you at home it could be anything – the daily newspaper, a magazine, a letter or a book.  You choose. Let them choose.  Just read.  Please help us to help your son or daughter by encouraging reading at home
