High Performance Academy - Update

posted 4 Mar 2018, 11:22 by Katrina Heather

Last Monday (26th February), the High Performance and Development Academy students took part in day two of a four day programme of talent development. The overall theme of this particular day was Injury Prevention, as they looked at refining exercise technique and exploring strategies to prepare the body for the intensive training needed in most sports to reach the top. A range of cross training activities were also explored at TJs exercise studio in Lake, our local community partners.

Students took part in a range of complimentary sessions in the morning from sports psychology, nutrition, free weight training and injury prevention. This was followed by the students taking part in a body balance class, focusing on flexibility and deep stretching. After lunch students walked to TJ's gym where they took part in ‘Spinfit’ and ‘Bodypump’ classes. Ten of the athletes were then invited to extend their day and took part in a challenging TRX core conditioning class, all of which were led by qualified exercise professionals.

"Students worked extremely hard throughout the whole day and were a credit to the school. I was so proud to work with the group of students who made sure that they got the best from the day. It was amazing to see the hard work that they put in and thank you to the staff at TJ's Gym for their amazing input." Mrs Clarke
