Inter-house Fishing Success!

posted 19 Jun 2018, 02:34 by Katrina Heather

We had a fantastic turn out to Inter House Fishing on Friday 15th June with 22 students entering the competition. Some students had taken the competition very seriously and had been planning their tactics, bait and position on the pier very carefully; Jack Smith even sent his Dad down to the pier to get the best spot and set up all of his equipment before school had even finished!

By 3.45pm all 22 students had set up and had cast out their rods to commence the fishing competition and we were eagerly awaiting the first successful catch. It took around 20 minutes of suspense before Year 7 student Alfie Hayles from Red House caught the first fish; a lovely looking wrasse. We were now on the board and at least had a competition!

Alfie’s success paved the way for more fish to be caught and it was Red house again who caught number two, a pout from Finley Youle. More pout followed from Logan Brooks Eldridge which was Yellow house’s 1st of the day, a Pout from Green House’s George Robinson (who opted for the light tackle) started Green House’s charge, a second to his name from Red House’s Alfie Hayles and another from Finley Youle which took red house into a commanding lead with four fish in total. The knowledgeable fisherman who was constantly helping other throughout the day, Henry Coburn then caught a pout of his own which took Yellow’s tally to two!

The best fish of the day was caught by Jack Brookes-Eldridge from Yellow House, which took their tally to three and only one away from the top of the leader board. Jack caught a beautiful, colorful wrasse.

On his final cast at 5.25pm, just five minutes before close, a wrasse from Blue House’s George Knight ensured they weren’t bottom of the leader board and ended up with one to their tally, much to Mr Bricknell’s delight!

The final results were:

Well done to Red House who were the winning house and take home the Inter House Fishing Trophy.

Overall it was a fantastic evening on Sandown Pier with 22 students, many of which brought their family along to help out. We are looking forward to the next one already!
