Outstanding Success for Sandown Bay at Sports Awards!

posted 23 Mar 2018, 03:12 by Katrina Heather
Congratulations to Sandown Bay Academy's PE Department who last night earned recognition at the Isle of Wight Sports Achievements Awards, becoming winners of the Outstanding Achievement Award

Last year we were runners up in the same category so it’s fantastic to see the progress to be awarded the title. Sandown Bay Academy was nominated after becoming a Tennis Foundation School - one of only 21 schools in England to gain such status. Sandown have been trialling a School of Tennis scheme which has seen development  of the outside courts (fondly known as mini-Wimbledon), a reintroduction of tennis into the curriculum and the introduction of UV (ultra violet) Tennis. Sandown also has a team of Tennis Ambassadors (students) who support the PE department in running the scheme, supporting local events and travelling to the mainland to assist in the delivery of tennis to primary aged children. Well done to all!

We also need to extend a huge well done to the following students who also received awards for their personal achievements in sport:

Daisy Faithfull
Emily Faithfull
Jamie Gamble
Ethan Walters

We are all incredibly proud of you and your achievements!!
