You may have seen in the press over the last couple of days reports about the post-ofsted monitoring inspection by inspector Alan Taylor-Bennett on 29th April. In a letter to the Academy after the visit, Mr Taylor Bennett noted that the Principal, Mrs Khan Jones and her Senior Team
" have responded positively to the concerns raised in the last inspection." and that "progress is already evident."
He reported progress in the quality of teaching & learning, attendance and measures taken for improving the process of dealing with bullying. The letter does refer to the Academy Improvement Plan as “not fit for purpose”, he was referring, not to the content of the plan, which is extensive and already having a significant impact, but to the fact that all the elements of our plan were not at that point in one central document, that might easily be read and commented on by all stakeholders, including OFSTED, for monitoring purposes. This was an easily rectifiable issue which we have already addressed.
All staff and governors at Sandown Bay are committed to improving the performance of the academy as quickly as possible, and this first monitoring inspection in fact shows that we are making significant progress on the key areas.
John Gansler, Chair of Governors.
