On Sunday 24th November, Ellie King and James Stirling took a break from the Seaclose Club Championships to travel to Waterlooville to represent Sandown Bay Academy at the Hampshire Schools Championships. With personal bests achieved within a week or so at Medina, and an early ferry, new personal bests were unlikely but still Ellie managed to get two personal bests out of three events, and James one out of four.
Ellie set the scene by winning her heat in the 100 freestyle with a PB, resulting in 17th place in Intermediate Girls (Years 10 and 11). Next came the 100 backstroke for James, with a time just outside his PB, he came 5th in the Intermediate Boys. He then went on to get 16th in the 200 freestyle, 9th in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 200 backstroke with a PB.
Ellie finished the day with 10th place in 100 back and then a PB in the 200 freestyle, placing her 13th out of the Intermediate Girls. With strong competition, the two Sandown Bay Academy swimmers came back to the island proud of their achievements.
