The following statement is issued on behalf of Academies Enterprise Trust, sponsor of Ryde Academy 9.00am on 4 February

“We can confirm that Eric Jackson, Executive Principal at Sandown Bay Academy, is taking on the additional responsibility of Executive Principal at Ryde Academy.

Mr Jackson’s new role will help to ensure that the two academies collaborate closely and share best practice.

A recent Ofsted visit confirmed that Mr Jackson has 'provided firm, decisive and practical leadership' at Sandown Bay. The visit stated also that ‘morale is improving’ amongst both teachers and students under Mr Jackson’s leadership.  He will be supported by Mrs Sharon Watt, a highly experienced Principal who is now Interim Head of School.

We will be recruiting for the position of Principal of Ryde Academy, to start in September 2015.

Our priority remains providing the best possible learning environment for our pupils. We are fully committed to the academy being rated as 'good' by Ofsted at the earliest opportunity.” Ends

I wish to assure parents and students that my substantive role remains Principal at Sandown Bay Academy and I will be on this site for most of the time and continuing to drive forward improvement.

I remain fully committed to staff and students at Sandown Bay Academy and I am excited by the opportunity of developing a much closer working relationship between the two academies. There is real strength in schools working together and I know that we have a strong team of staff within both academies; their combined efforts can only benefit students.

This formal link with Ryde also aligns with a wider development where our academy will work with schools on the island and in southern Hampshire in order to develop common approaches to school improvement.  Three successful head teachers from Hampshire have already arranged to visit Sandown Bay for joint planning over the next few days.
