It was great to meet parents and carers at the welcome events this week. If you were unable to make the meetings, you can view the information on our website (click here).

Thank you to you as parents in working with us to ensure your child is in the best possible place to learn. Consistency of uniform standards and making sure that all of their equipment is with them and available has meant that a really purposeful start to the school year has happened and learning is evident for the students in their lessons. This will all add to the improvement agenda which we have by addressing the issues raised by OFSTED recently. I look forward to continuing to work with you and your child in this journey at Sandown developing the students to aspire to great things throughout their futures.

Thank you to ex-student Charlotte Williams who came in to talk to Sixth Form students this week about her experience at medical school. Students found the session really informative learning about the application process for medical school as well as the work involved in completing a degree in medicine.

We also had a visit from Nicola Brentnall, Director of the Queens Trust who came in to run an aspirational workshop with students about common misconceptions around careers and help them feel more informed as they approach their next choices.

Year 7’s enjoyed their first Inter House competition this week. Congratulations to Green House who won the football and Yellow house who won the netball. Next week’s Inter House competition is Year 8 netball and football. The extra-curricular programme is on our website (click here), please encourage your children to take part in as many clubs and study support sessions as possible.

It was excellent to see so many talented students turn up this week for the auditions for the school production ‘Behind the Rainbow,’ The cast list is out today. I am sure it will be a fantastic production and a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents. Auditions for Global Rock take place on Tuesday 19th September in South Hall from 3.00-4.30pm, students from all year groups are welcome.

The first sports fixtures took place this week with the Year 7, 8 and 9 boys all taking on Medina. The Year 8 team won 6-3, the Year 9 team won 11-0 and the Year 7 team lost 7-5.

Enjoy your weekend,

Richard Kelly
