Head Teacher’s Blog – Friday 8th September

It has been lovely to welcome back students this week after the summer break. I have been in assemblies this week talking through the ‘Agreed Achieveables’ with students, these are the expectations we have for every lesson (click here to view). It is great to see the vast majority of students in the correct uniform and ready to learn. We will be sending letters home to parents if students are not in the correct uniform. Please help to reinforce this message at home.

Year 7 students have settled into Sandown Bay Academy very well, they are enjoying finding their new classrooms and learning new and exciting subjects.

I look forward to meeting parents at the welcome events next week:

Tuesday 12th September, 5.30pm – Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

Thursday 14th September, 5.30pm – Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

These events will give you the opportunity to meet key members of staff and access information so you can best support your children at home.

We are also holding a BBQ for families of Year 7 students on Friday 15th September from 3.15-5.30pm.

Sixth Form students celebrated in August with the release of excellent A Level results. Students were accepted onto a huge range of courses at some of the best universities in the UK. We wish them the best of luck at university. You can read more about the successes of these students on our website (click here).

This year’s GCSE results for Year 11 students were a reflection of the hard work they have put in, which has resulted in an improvement on a headline measure of 5 A*-C including English and Maths; this figure is an increase of 5% on last year with an overall figure of approximately 42%.

Enjoy your weekend
