I have been very impressed with the behaviour and attitudes of students on their first full week back, the atmosphere has been very positive and students are focussed and working hard.

Congratulations to Year 7 who had 100% attendance on Wednesday, they are setting the bar high for the rest of the year groups, keep it up! I have seen lots of happy year 7 faces again this week, they are settling into Academy life well. It was great to see such a good turnout for the first inter house competition this week; year 7 football and netball.

Year 7 are a great example to the rest of the academy and have demonstrated that it is possible to achieve full attendance, everyone else now needs to play their part on each and every day.  Remember, 95% attendance may seem high but that is the best part of two weeks absence every year – it doesn’t seem at all good when we recognise that is over half a term during 5 years at school.

Our Academy Council have been working hard to ensure that all students have their views and voices heard this year. They met with Form Reps and House Reps this week and are undertaking a survey about our new catering company. Empowering the student council is something I fully support, I want every student to know that their view is important and I am keen for them to shape their academy.

I was really pleased to see such a large number of students start sixth form on Monday, having achieved some excellent GCSE results. They are very well turned out and excited to get involved in sixth form life. Their new Bistro is providing a relaxing place to eat and study in between lessons.

Well done to the Year 13 students who performed at The Bestival last weekend, they entertained the festival goers with their street theatre. It is a great accolade to have been selected to perform for the fourth year in a row.

Have a great weekend.
