This week we have been able to share and celebrate the outcome of the latest Ofsted monitoring visit. The letter is something that staff, students and parents should be proud of and reflects the hard work and commitment from everyone in ensuring Sandown Bay Academy continues to be one of the fastest improving schools in the country.

Another busy week in the academy has seen both the boys and girls U13 cricket teams continue their victorious run. The boys’ team beat Oakland school in the quarter finals of the Hampshire cup and are now through to the semi-finals. The girls’ team are through to the Island cup final after beating Christ the King.

On Wednesday I attended an intimate evening where Media students showcased their final video of the year, there were a great range of different styles and genres and the comedy was hilarious. It was really good to see these sixth form students at the end of their academy journey and I left confident that we may have prepared at least one of our students to be equipped to become a celebrated film director in the future. Let’s wait and see how careers progress through university.

I shall be on the island over the weekend enjoying the sunshine and the festival traffic although I did have an easy journey back to Newport yesterday afternoon and so thank you and well done to those managing the festival traffic. If you are going to the festival and still have exams to sit; remember there is a festival every year, you only get one chance to shape your future. Revise, revise, revise and do not get sun burnt.
