Principal's Blog - Friday 13th November

posted 13 Nov 2015, 03:43 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 13 Nov 2015, 03:56 ]

Sandown students paid their respects on Remembrance Day on Wednesday; there was a two minute silence at 11.00am. Sixth Form students laid a wreath on the War Memorial in South Foyer; this was particularly poignant since these students visited the concentration camps in Germany on their History trip earlier this year.  We also displayed some beautiful poppies and bunting made by students in technology lessons.

Students attending Japanese club have been getting to grips with Japanese 'Kanji' symbols and trying their hand at some 'Shodo' (Calligraphy) this week. They have been learning to write names and also started basic conversations in Japanese.

Students put on a spectacular show at ‘Sandown’s Got Talent’ last night; it was a fantastic evening of entertainment raising money for Cancer Research. Congratulations to the winners: Daisy Gullen (Junior singing), Matt Portelli and Corinne Atkins (Senior Singing), Dan Clark (Speciality Act).

Well done to the Sixth Form students who ran a successful football tournament as part of their Business Studies coursework. Their organisational and leadership skills were fantastic and students thoroughly enjoyed the tournament.

I hope to see lots of Year 11 students and parents at our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday. Come along and find out about our excellent Sixth Form and the wide range of courses on offer.

Just a reminder that next Friday (20th November) is a staff development day so students are not in school.

Enjoy your weekend.
