Principal's Blog - Friday 14th March

Our students have been excelling at the Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival this week and showing the judges why Sandown Bay Academy has such a fantastic reputation for performing arts. I really want to see our students having the opportunity to achieve excellence in all areas, please let me know if there is more that we can do.

Classic Guitar: 1st - Jordon Strobach Morris and Josh Collings achieved the highest festival grade so far.  

 2nd place, missing out on first place by 1 point! 

Brass Class2nd - Hattie Pusey, 3rd - John Stirling 

Rock and Pop:
Hannah Bean and Annie Daffern did us proud!


Improvisation: 1st - Imogen Hawkin, Ottilie Richards and Maisie Longhurst

Duologues1st - Finley Wanstall and Poppy Sheldrake 'Sparkleshark', 2nd Jade Bennett and Molly Ellis 'Daisy Pulls It Off' and 3rd - Andrew Swallow and Olly Morley 'Blood Brothers'

Special mention to Sam Laughton and Daisy Wells (The Importance of Being Ernest) and Taura Hudson and Jade Honey (Romeo and Juliet) for their excellent duologue performances. 

One Act Plays: 1st - Becky Bruce, Rebecca King, Abbi Lane, Lydia Stuart, Courtney Thomas, Joanna Walter with their Interpretation of 'The Disappeared.' 2nd - Benjamin Collins, Mia Gibbons, Ben Glanville, Lorcane Grandchamp, Ryan Knight with their interpretation of 'The Smile.' 


The festival continues into next week with more music and dance categories, good luck to all students taking part.  

Next Friday the Academy is holding a fundraising day for Sport Relief, Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust and Isle of Wight Food Bank. I hope everyone supports this event to ensure it is a great success; once again the school council are doing excellent work showing leadership and getting everybody on board.
