Principal's Blog - Friday 18th November

posted 18 Nov 2016, 09:58 by Karen Bricknell

Teaching staff are spending today on the final day of a programme of professional development which will help them to deliver lessons that are engaging, exciting and ensure students make good progress. It has been lovely to see many of the ideas from the training already taking place in lessons this term. I hope Year 11 students have spent today revising hard for their mock exams which start next week (click here to view the schedule). Don’t forget to make the most of GCSE Pod, it is an excellent on line revision resource offering podcasts and associated materials for a range of GCSE subjects focused on particular examination boards.

Students in Year 7 and 9 were inspired this week when they had the opportunity to meet GB long jumper Ezekiel Ewulo.

Ability Dogs 4 Young People came into Sixth Form assembly this week to educate students about Ability Dogs and to thank them for fundraising for their charity last year. Ability Dogs 4 Young People is an Isle of Wight charity training assistance dogs to enhance the independence of disabled young people and children living on the Isle of Wight. They train Ability Dogs to help with physical and mental disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy.

‘Friends of Sandown Bay Academy’ are a group of parents who wish to help the Academy with fundraising, they met this week to plan for the first fundraiser; a Christmas Fair on Wednesday 14th December from 3.00-6.00pm. There is a £5 charge for each staff at the fair. If you would like to book a stall please contact Karen Bricknell on 401984.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday, we hope you found the evening informative. If you have any questions or queries then please do not hesitate to contact the Sixth Form Office.

I look forward to meeting lots of you at the Year 9 Parent Consultations on Thursday 24th November. Students were given appointment slips yesterday. They will be taking the appointment slip to their teachers to make appointments.

Enjoy your weekend
