Dear Parents and Carers,

I was delighted to see Year 7 students being rewarded for the hard work they put in on their transition projects during the summer term. Students were rewarded with Vivos and certificates in their assembly this week. I must give a special mention to Ellie Honey who did a phenomenal project; she took on Miss Atkins’ Applied Learning project; completing a journal on seeds, looking at how they changed and grew over the summer. Well done Ellie for your outstanding commitment and effort. We are very proud of the extensive transition programme at SBA; it is great to see its impact; settled, confident and happy Year 7 students.

Congratulations to the Year 13 BTEC Performing Arts students who performed at Bestival last weekend. I hear that their dance and street theatre performances were incredible and they even had a Radio One DJ join in with them.

The Year 7 boys’ football team played exceptionally well in their debut match this week, beating Ryde Academy 12-1. The boys were buzzing after their match. What a great sporting start to the term! Good luck next week in your game against Springfield School.

Thank you to all the students who came along to the Sound of Music auditions this week. With the talent we have here at Sandown, it is set to be a spectacular show. The performing arts department are keen to hear from parents and family members who may be able to help out with the production in December, whether it be helping with costumes or playing in the band. Please get in touch if you can offer assistance.

Blue House were victorious at Year 8 Interhouse netball this week; well done to the Blue House team. Unfortunately waterlogged pitches meant that Interhouse football was cancelled, but it will take place next Wednesday alongside Year 9.

It was lovely to meet lots of parents at the Parent Partnership meetings this week; the next one is for Year 11 students and parents on Tuesday 29th September. Next week we have ‘Meet the tutor’ events for Year 7 and Year 12. I look forward to meeting more parents then.

Enjoy your weekend.
