Principal's Blog - Friday 1st July

posted 1 Jul 2016, 04:08 by Karen Bricknell

Congratulations to the 23 students in Year 7 and 8 who celebrated excellent commitment to reading this week. They have all read over 1 million words in Accelerated Reader books. A special mention to Neve Rust who is one quiz away from reading 10 million words over her 2  years at SBA and Megan Hopkins who has read over 6 million words since September 2015.

Students braved the rain for sports day this week; most of the events were completed before the heavy rain set in. We will announce which house won once the sprint and relay events have been done.

Well done to the Key Stage 3 Drama Club for their sharp, witty, pithy adaptation of Othello this week. The rain meant that it couldn’t be performed outside, but it didn’t dampen the atmosphere and it was an excellent performance.

I felt so proud watching Sandown’s Global Rock performance on Saturday night. They were awesome! Their hard work and commitment shone through in what was an emotional and powerful performance. We won 8 awards of excellence for:
Visual Enhancement, Costuming Character, Entertainment, Soundtrack,
Set Design and Function, Drama, Video Performance and Lighting.

Students are already taking about how to make next year’s performance even bigger and even better.

I was delighted to attend the Year 8 Presentation Evening this week to present awards to so many deserving Year 8 students for their fantastic achievements and contributions to Sandown Bay Academy.

Our cricket teams have had a successful week with the Year 7 team becoming Isle of Wight Champions and the U15 team progressing to the Hampshire 20/20 finals.

It has been lovely to have the Year 6 students with us once again this week.  They are a fantastic year group who are showing a lot of promise and they have really embraced all of the intake days and preparation for starting Sandown Bay Academy in September.

Please take a few minutes to read a letter which gives an update for parents about new staff joining us in September and arrangements for the start of term (click here). If you have not already read it, please also read my letter to parents about the NUT strike action on Tuesday 5th July (click here).

Enjoy your weekend
