Principal's Blog - Friday 23rd October

posted 23 Oct 2015, 07:01 by Karen Bricknell

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Inter House relay today and well done to Harvey, Dominic and Lawrence for organising this event. By the end of today approximately 150 miles (600 laps of the track) would have been run.

It was lovely to see all the students who participated in the Cross-Atlantic Challenge last week come together for a group photograph on Tuesday. I am very proud of everyone who took part and it is wonderful to see so many students working together as a team and embracing the opportunities at Sandown Bay Academy.

We have had a successful sporting week; the Year 7 boys’ football team beat Cowes Enterprise College 5-1 while the Year 7 and 8 girls’ football team beat Swanmore School 2-1 in the Hampshire Cup round. The Year 7 boys won 3 games at the rugby festival in Southampton and the U16 and U19 netball teams came 3rd and 4th respectively in the county round of the National Schools netball competition.  I was particularly pleased to hear that one of the passengers on the boat with our Year 7 and 8 girls approached their PE teacher to say what a credit they were to the school and how impeccable their behaviour was.

Can I take this opportunity to let you know some key dates for the next half term:

As the colder weather approaches can I remind you that students can wear a plain v- neck black jumper in addition to their blazers. Hoodies are not allowed. Students should wear a coat that is a length suitable to cover the blazer.  The majority of our students are looking extremely smart, however, I ask parents to support us in ensuring that the Academy uniform and guidelines are adhered to.

As we come to the end of the first half term I would like to thank you all for the very warm welcome that you have given me. It is a pleasure to work with the Sandown Bay Academy community and I look forward to celebrating many more successes for our students in the months ahead.

Have an enjoyable half term.
