Principal’s Blog Friday 24th March

Sandown Bay Academy students were a force to be reckoned with at the 2017 National Junior Rowing Championships last Friday at Lee Valley Park. We came away from the event with all rowers having finished inside the top half of their events and yet another national champion! Daisy Faithfull in Year 12 was presented with her gold medal by members of the Oxford Boat race crew, she won a bronze medal last year and was thrilled to become National champion this year. Congratulations to all of the students who took part: Daisy Faithfull, Jamie Gamble, Kirren Shaw, Sophie Atkin, Emily Faithfull, Ethan Walters, Sam Evans Murray, Rachael Debenham and Owen Denness. You can read the full report from the event on our website (click here).

Congratulations to the Year 10 students from secondary schools across the island who took part in the Maths Feast on Monday, hosted here at Sandown Bay Academy. It was a fun afternoon with friendly competition and some excellent Maths.

Results:

1st place - Cowes Enterprise College

2nd place - Ryde School

3rd place - Sandown Bay Academy Team 1 and Ryde Academy

Award for best teamwork - Sandown Bay Academy Team 2

Year 11 students had a motivational workshop this week with Jim Roberson; a American pro footballer and now Motivational Coach. He based the workshop on personal experiences along with rapid-fire interactive activities with the purpose of helping students get the best out of themselves for a successful future.

Thank you to students and staff who joined in with Red House Mufti day today to raise money for Comic Relief. There was some fantastic baking in Interhouse Bake off on Thursday and I am sure lots of money will be raised through the cake sales, mufti money and Year 7 disco.

Enjoy your weekend
