Principal's Blog - Friday 26th February

posted 26 Feb 2016, 07:07 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 26 Feb 2016, 07:15 ]

I was pleased to see so many Year 11 students in for revision sessions over half term. Year 11 Pre Public examinations are taking place all next week; these will provide another valuable chance for students to practice sitting exams before the real exams start in a few weeks. Please encourage your child to stay after school for revision and support sessions as much as possible in the run up to exams.

Thank you to all the parents who came to Year 8 Parent Consultations on Wednesday and for providing us with feedback; 96% of parents surveyed said it is clear how their child can improve following the consultation and 100% said they got all of the information they were seeking from the event.

Congratulations to Angharad Outlaw who won the Interhouse Poster Competition to design a poster that will be displayed on our website and around the Academy to help us promote the importance of adhering to the five British values: Democracy, The rule of law, Mutual Respect, Individual liberty, Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. Angharad won a Kindle Fire and Amazon voucher. Well done to the runners up who received Amazon vouchers; Gideon Davies, Kassidy Turrell, Amber Jupe and Jake Reed. I was really impressed with the thought and effort that went into designing the posters.

Well done to the Year 9 Rugby team who took part in the Hampshire Rugby Development Festival this week. They were outstanding, winning 2 out of three games in their seeded group; they were brilliant ambassadors for Sandown Bay Academy.

Students in Year 7 and 8 represented Sandown Bay Academy yesterday afternoon in the Island Schools Cross-Country Championships. The competition across all the Island Secondary Schools was also an opportunity for students to qualify to represent the Isle of Wight next month at the Hampshire Schools Championships. The team results have not been confirmed yet but congratulations to Reece Gaylor, Haydn Jones, Devon Pollard, Ellie Treagus, Brad Wagstaff and Ellie Lovett have all qualified for the Isle of Wight team. All SBA students competing are to be commended for their competitive spirit and for the support and encouragement they showed to other runners, which extended from cheering on our runners to helping runners from other schools who had slipped and fallen down. The camaraderie our students displayed is to be commended.

There is a meeting on Tuesday 1st March for parents and students to find out more about next year’s ski trip. The trip is open to students who will be in Year 9 and upwards next year. Come along and find out more about the trip which has been incredibly successful over the last few years.

Enjoy your weekend
