Principal's Blog - Friday 27th June

posted 27 Jun 2014, 10:26 by Karen Bricknell

What a week to be part of Sandown Bay Academy, there is only one word I can use to sum it up, pride.

On Saturday our Global Rock team came 5th in the Premier final; they won 9 awards for excellence for their fantastic performance. They also won ‘The Spirit of Global Rock,’ this is an award that is voted for by the other schools for the friendliest and most supportive school. What a great achievement, I am very proud of everyone who took part and who represented Sandown Bay Academy in such a positive way.

The Baylink Olympics was an outstanding event; I never envisaged how great it would be! In all the schools I have worked in I have never seen such a vibrant event, bringing together so many children and parents from the local community. The 250 Sandown Bay Academy students helping to run the events represented their school with pride, they were proud to showcase the excellent sporting and curricular activities we have on offer at Sandown. As I walked around all the different activities and areas I too had great pride hearing the many comments from visitors about how wonderful our students were. Thank you to everyone who helped and who enabled our local community to see that Sandown is a great school.

We were very lucky with the weather, and the rain held off for sports day today, well done to Green and Blue Houses, joint winners. Congratulations to everyone who took part in National School Sports Week and to the U15 girls’ cricket team, the U13 girls’ cricket team and the U13 rounders team who all played exceptionally well this week to become island champions. I am told we have almost taken every Island title in sports competitions; keep it up teams, what a lot you have to be proud of this year.

Another reason to be proud this week; Joe Doncaster and Alice Hyde are National Champions following the final of the Create2Cook challenge. Their rabbit pie and strawberry cheesecake, was judged as the very best by Steven Edwards, winner of Masterchef Professionals.

Enjoy the weekend, hopefully the sun will be out at some point.
