Principal's Blog - Friday 2nd October

Dear Parents and Carers,

We ended this week with a very successful fundraising day organised by the School Council. Two weeks ago they came to me, on behalf of Sandown students who, having seen the tragic stories in the media, were desperate to do something to help. They decided where they wanted the money raised to go, to an Island firm ‘Seaflex’ who are making and donating life rafts to be used in the Mediterranean Sea. They also wanted to collect warm clothes to be shipped out to refugee camps. I have been incredibly impressed by their determination, their empathy and their leadership skills. Thank you to students and to parents for your generous support.

Year 11 students Geology students have spent this week discovering the fascinating Geological heritage on the Isle of Arran, I look forward to hearing all about it when they return to school on Monday.

I was delighted to hear that Year 7 students behaved impeccably when taking their MIDYIS tests this week. They were professional and confident, making a great start to their first tests at secondary school. Keep it up Year 7.

We will be welcoming Year 6 students into the Academy next week for a series of exciting taster days, including Science and Technology, Maths and ICT, Music and Performing Arts.

We have been notified that there are emergency water repairs taking place on the road outside the Academy starting on Saturday for the next 4 weeks. Traffic lights are likely to cause delay so it will be very busy during drop off and collecting time. I would advise parents to drop students off further up The Fairway in order to avoid delays.

Enjoy your weekend
