Principal's Blog - Friday 3rd March

posted 3 Mar 2017, 02:50 by Karen Bricknell

Year 11 students have been very focussed and worked hard in their PPE exams this week. Please encourage your children to study as much as possible at home and make the most of resources such as GCSE Pod.

Congratulations to all of the students who took part in the Global Rock Showcase this week, you were incredible! We won six awards of excellence in the following areas:

Stage Crew, Entertainment, Choreography, Video Performance, Soundtrack and Drama.

We also won the Spirit of Rock Challenge Award, this is voted by the other schools on the day for the school who has been most supportive.

High Performance Academy students from Years 7 and 8 visited the Ben Ainslie Racing Americas Cup base in Portsmouth this week. Students were given a tour of the base and worked within their specially adapted 'tech deck'. Students learnt about the history of the Americas Cup and about Ben Ainslie’s campaign to win the cup in Bermuda this year. They had the opportunity to design sails and test their creations in the wind tunnels. They also raced against Ben Ainslie in a sailing simulator. Year 9 & 10 students visit the base on 21st March 2017.

Sixth Form students had a fantastic time in Tenerife last week on a Geology Trip. They had an action packed week which included climbing to the top of Mount Teide at sunrise.

Student participation - two opportunities to demonstrate leadership.

We are looking for students to participate in a review of the Academy's code of conduct. Details will be shared in assembly next week. This is a great opportunity for interested students to develop leadership and team working skills.

We are also looking for a group of students to help design our green space at the centre of the campus. Further details will be available next week. Please encourage your children to sign up!

Enjoy your weekend
