Sixth Form students are coming to the end of their enrolment phase, they have settled in really well and we hope to see lots of parents at the information evening on Tuesday to talk about the progress they are making.  As the new students adapt to sixth form life, it has been great to hear from ex-students who have been in touch to say they settling in well at university. One of the special things about SBA is that once students have left, they like to keep in touch.

It has been another busy week in the Academy. We had a fantastic turn out for Years 10 and 11 Inter House competitions on Wednesday and also for the first Global Rock auditions.

The Year 11 boys’ football team beat Swanmore College 5-4 in their Hampshire Cup match this week. The Year 10 and 11 girls’ netball teams started the season well by both beating Carisbrooke College this week. The U15 girls’ football team beat Carisbrooke 12-0 and the U13 boys’ football team beat Carisbooke 4-0.

The work experience office has been busy this week with over 30 students visiting in the last 2 days requesting work experience for teaching, veterinary, engineering and much more.  I would encourage students to take advantage of the work experience and outreach opportunities at SBA. We have contacts with lots of businesses and universities both on the Island and on the mainland where students can do work experience and outreach visits to get a glimpse of the opportunities out there when they finish school.  Last week 6 students from sixth form hopeful to get into the field of medicine attended the Medical Careers Day at St Mary’s Hospital. They met with a group of doctors who spoke first hand of their experiences, how they applied, subjects studied and then their experience of medical school. They gave our students realistic advice on how to apply and survive medical school. There were several activities including basic CPR and also inserting a cannula.

Enjoy your weekend; I shall be up North, hoping for some sunshine!
