Principal's Blog - Friday 4th July

posted 4 Jul 2014, 01:40 by Karen Bricknell

This week started with the opening of our Summer Art Exhibition; parents, students and staff came to admire the beautiful artwork produced by our students. It was a great opportunity for the art department to showcase the talent we have within our academy, from Years 7 through to sixth form, I am sure that many of these students will go on to have very successful careers within the art industry.
If you did not come along, you can admire the work on our Facebook page (click here).

The art department also held workshops this week for students in years 5 and 6 from local primary schools to give them a taster of the exciting art on offer at Sandown Bay Academy. They made some superb collages, fish prints and cartoon super heroes; their work will no doubt feature in future art exhibitions.

I have seen lots of happy faces around during the Year 6 Intake days this week. Miss Chase tells me they are a lovely year group; we all look forward to ensuring they seize the many opportunities on offer to them when they start Sandown Bay Academy in September.

15 Students returned from their Arran adventure activity week, I have had feedback from staff that the students were enthusiastic and very well behaved all week, the group also received many similar compliments from members of the public, this is great to hear. I have received lots of positive feedback about our students recently; particularly the sports leaders running sports day and the performing arts students who have been helping with the performance of Bugsy Malone at Broadlea Primary; these students have done a sterling job.
Well done all.

‘They were outstanding role models.  Not only were they talented musicians but their commitment and hard work during the rehearsals and the performances was noted by all.  We are very grateful and their input gave a great professionalism to the performances.

Our sports day was a great success and this was largely due to the input and organisational skills of your young leaders.  Again their behaviour and commitment was outstanding.’

We have another busy week ahead; I look forward to seeing the Year 11’s return for sixth form induction on Monday.
