Principal's Blog - Friday 4th March

posted 4 Mar 2016, 02:14 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 4 Mar 2016, 02:25 ]

We celebrated World Book Day yesterday; students had fun matching up the book shelf to the member of staff in the ‘shelfie’ competition, well done to Josh Brooker who correctly matched up 16 of the 18 ‘shelfies’ to the staff members. Students also chose books for each other and for teachers to read, these were gift wrapped and given out anonymously as a 'Secret Book Assignation'.  Please join us in encouraging your children to read as much as possible; this is consistently proven by research to have a very positive effect on progress.

SBA students excelled at The Isle of Wight Speech and Drama Festival earlier this week. In the duologues class Kiera HIll and Megan O'Brien-Fury were awarded a distinction and came first, Mikee Flannery and Paige Ely were awarded distinction and came second and Ottilie Richardson and Megan Godard were also awarded a distinction and came joint third. All students who took part performed incredibly well and did the Academy proud; they were excellent role models to the younger competitors. I encourage more students to get involved in the many opportunities we have here at SBA in drama, public speaking and debate. These are all activities that will promote confidence and the ability to speak to a wide variety of audiences; essential skills for a successful future.

Members of our School Council visited Bembridge Primary school this week to present a 'British Values' assembly to 92 children. The importance of the British values was shared with the children and after completing a questionnaire put together by the council members, it was clear that the children learned a great deal from the presentation as well as enjoying the experience. Well done to Rebekah Lewis, Chloe Butchers, Peter Wright, Charlotte Kelly, Klaudia Derewenko and Peter Burns.

I was delighted to meet Nathan Doran from Red House Council this week to discuss arrangements for a Sport Relief Fundraising day on Friday 18th March. The well thought out plans sound ambitious and exciting; watch this space!

Enjoy your weekend
