Principal's Blog - Friday 5th February

posted 4 Feb 2016, 23:53 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 5 Feb 2016, 06:43 ]

Our Year 9 students represented the Academy and the island admirably this week at the launch of 'The Watermark Challenge'. Their challenge is to complete a project based on one of the biggest commercial developments in Southampton; this collaborative venture aims to increase students’ skills in teamwork, communication and presentation. Sandown Bay Academy is proud to be the only island school selected to take part. Our students now have a busy few weeks of preparation, research and creative thinking to ensure they are ready for the final presentation in the Board Room on 3rd March. You can read more about the challenge in this week’s newsletter.

House Leaders focused on the importance of British Values in their assemblies this week. They launched a competition to design a poster that will be displayed on our website and around the Academy to help us promote the importance of adhering to the five British values: Democracy, The rule of law, Mutual Respect, Individual liberty, Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

Congratulations to both the boys and girls indoor athletics teams, they competed in the Isle of Wight Schools Sports Hall Athletics Championships on Tuesday and came away as Isle of Wight Champions.

Year 8 parents have received a letter with details on how to book appointments for the upcoming Parent Consultation event on 24th February. Changes to our online system have allowed appointments to be made from 3.30-7.30pm; this will allow for a normal school day for all students.

Next Friday is mufti-day for students, we ask students to bring in £1.00 to support Cancer Research UK. They can wear mufti but at least one item must be green.

Enjoy your weekend
