Principal's Blog - Friday 6th February

This has been a very busy week, I am sure many of you will have seen the local press and my memo to parents explaining that I am taking on the additional responsibility of Executive Principal at Ryde Academy until the end of the Summer Term. Once again I want to reassure you that my substantive role remains Principal at Sandown Bay Academy and I will be on this site for most of the time and continuing to drive forward improvement. I remain fully committed to staff and students at Sandown Bay Academy and I am excited by the opportunity of developing a much closer working relationship between the two academies.

I was delighted to hear that members of the public were exceptionally complimentary about our students who were bag packing at Morrisons last weekend, a fantastic £1219 was raised for Global Rock.

Some of our Sixth Form Performing Arts students have been entertaining students at Broadlea this week as part of their storytelling assessment.

Year 7 and 8 students were out in force at the Cross Country championships on Monday; we had the most runners out of all the schools and our athletes were excellent ambassadors for SBA. Well done to everyone who took part, particularly Jacob Jackson in Year 7 who came 4th, Ellie Lovett in Year 7 who came 5th and to all of the following students who finished inside the top 20:

Year 7 - Jack Parker, Ryan Mann, Badley Wagstaff, Alanah Cook, Bethany Underdown and Oonah O'neil.

Year 8 -  Corrie Hallett, Dillon Gough, Charlie Fuller, Adam Begerlin, Millie Kerr, Lucy Drover, Chloe Butchers, Sasha Nash and Jadzia Rogers.

We have another busy week ahead with Curriculum Focus Day on Tuesday where all students will be off timetable taking part in a huge range of activities including: options taster sessions, ‘Head on’ road safety presentation, targeted intervention and team building activities. Inter house Cross Country is on Wednesday afternoon and we finish the week with a mufti-day organised by the student council.

Enjoy your weekend

Eric Jackson
