Principal's Blog - Friday 6th January

posted 6 Jan 2017, 01:21 by Karen Bricknell

It has been lovely to welcome back students after their Christmas holidays. This is a very important term for Year 11 students who are on countdown to their final GCSE examinations in the summer term. This week they opened their mock exam results as part of Brown Envelope Day. Brown Envelope day has been designed to be a watershed moment. It gives all pupils the opportunity to have a “mock run” of the results day they will have in August and provides as accurate a picture as possible of the grades the pupils would have received if the clock had stopped and courses had been completed just before Christmas. All Year 11 students attended an assembly, as well as a workshop, and were told the importance of studying for their exams every single day. These next few weeks are critical for their futures and I encourage students to take up as many after school support and study sessions as possible (click here to view the programme). We are firmly committed to supporting students as much as possible over the weeks ahead; please do get in touch to let us know if there are particular suggestions you may have for how we can best support your child.

Equally, this is a critical time for students in Year 13 who are entering their final period of study prior to exams. Many students have already received exciting offers from universities and are working hard to secure their places and the best possible grades. We are pleased to see the work ethic that has been demonstrated by the vast majority of students so far this year and encourage them to build on that and challenge themselves to even higher standards in these final few weeks.

Students who left Year 13 in the summer term came back to the Academy on Wednesday Evening where they were rewarded by the Sixth Form Team for their excellent A Level results. It was great to hear how they have been enjoying their degree courses at universities all over the country.

Well done to Year 7 students who took part in Interhouse Rugby this week, there was a great friendly and competitive atmosphere. Well done to Green House boys and Yellow House girls who came out on top.

Tickets are now on sale for our production of ‘Rocket Man’ on the 18th and 19th January. It is set to be a spectacular performance so please come along and support our talented students.

A date for the diary for Year 9 parents is the Options Evening on Thursday 26th January. I look forward to seeing many of you there as we support students through these important choices.

Enjoy your weekend.
