Principal's Blog - Friday 7th April

posted 7 Apr 2017, 02:33 by Karen Bricknell

The Academy is open Monday-Wednesday next week for revision and study support sessions for students in Years 11-13. Please encourage your children to come along and make the most of the sessions available (click here to view the schedule).

Year 13 students are sitting on offers from top universities all over the country. I mentioned in a previous blog that Juliette Wrixon has an offer from Cambridge University to study Engineering. Grace Addyman has received 4 offers to study medicine; it is almost unprecedented to receive offers from every medical school applied for. To get in first time to medical school is an exceptional achievement, each year there are 14800 applicants for approximately 6500 places. Sophie Swallow received an offer from London School of Economics on a course that has 19 applicants for each place. All students in Year 13 who applied to university have received offers, with 33 of the offers from Russell Group universities. I commend students for the work they have done attending University Summer Schools, Higher Education Events and extending their curriculum with personal study and work experience, all of which have allowed them to write the high quality personal statements required to secure top offers.

Congratulations to all students who took part in the fantastic Inter-house cross country yesterday. I am very proud of all of the students who took part.

The overall results were:

1st - Blue House

2nd - Green House

3rd - Yellow House

4th - Red House

You will no doubt have seen some of the press this week concerning funding and budget cuts at the Academy. I would like to reassure parents and carers that while we are faced with some difficult decisions to make within a limited budget, we are determined to make the very best decisions for the students and the school. I would like to reassure you that the staff are working incredibly hard to make this the very best possible learning environment for our children. There is much to be proud of at Sandown Bay, and we are firmly committed to ensuring the very best for our students.

Wishing you all a relaxing Easter break.
