It has been fantastic to witness for myself the sporting excellence at Sandown Bay Academy. Our sports teams are certainly showing that they thrive to make their best better. Last Friday we became Island Champions at Indoor Rowing, winning by 35 points. Many of these students will be competing at the Hampshire Indoor Rowing Championships next week and I wish them luck.

Good luck also to our Year 10 football team who play in the final of the Island Schools Competition on Wednesday next week. I hope many parents and staff go along to support them at Cowes Sports Football Club. Our U16 rugby team are also through to the final of the Hampshire Bowl on 26th March, so there are hopefully many more sporting trophies on their way. Our Year 7 and 8 netball teams are also strong, both thrashing Christ the King last week.

Another sporty person and good sport is Mr Apsey, Head of Year 9 who is running the London Marathon in April for Ellen Macarthur cancer trust. He had a successful fundraising event on Thursday raising £375. Students held a cake sale and took part in high energy activities during Year 9 assembly to raise money. Mr Apsey also had his legs waxed, something I thought swimmers did not marathon runners!

The sixth form team have been carrying out progression interviews with year 11 students this week. It is great to hear that students are aiming high and have made informed choices about their future. Now it is key that they continue to focus on making their best better and achieving good GCSE grades.

So, all in all, a very productive week at Sandown Bay Academy. We must maintain our efforts in the run up to half –term .

Best wishes
