Principal's Blog - Friday 8th July

posted 8 Jul 2016, 02:19 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 8 Jul 2016, 02:29 ]

Year 11 students have attended our Sixth Form Induction this week and enjoyed a wide range of subjects on offer at Sandown Bay Academy and Ryde Academy. Our current Year 12 students were superb roles models in showing the new students around the Academy and making them feel welcome. Year 11's experienced new subjects such as Philosophy, Psychology, Law, Sociology, Geology, Product Design, Citizenship and EPQ. Students also attended sessions including;  'Destination Driven; where they discovered websites to help with career options such as icould.com/sacu-student.com, learning about changes in the job market, skills sought by employers, UCAS and employment applications. I look forward to welcoming them back in September.

It was lovely to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our Year 9 students this week at their presentation evening. Thank you to Martyn Heather who is Head of Education and Welfare for Premier League, he was an inspirational guest speaker at the event.

A group of students have spent this week on the Isle of Arran taking part in a huge range of adventure activities including plunge pooling, mountain climbing and abseiling. The week has been a life shaping experience for all of the students; they have embraced the challenge of living and working together in close quarter for 9 days, each dependent on the other for safety, well-being and achievements. They have displayed great resilience, tolerance and energy.

The U15 cricket team narrowly missed out on a place in the Hampshire Cup final this week after losing the semi-final. Congratulations to the team, making it to the semi-final is a great achievement.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support Blue House Quiz last night and to the many local businesses who donated prizes. All proceeds will go to the Isle of Wight Independent Lifeboats.

A reminder that students finish at 1pm on the last day of term, Friday 15th July. They can use their bus passes on normal Southern Vectis Service buses.

Enjoy your weekend.
