Happy New Year, I hope you all had a relaxing Christmas. Over the holidays Sandown Bay Academy students, past and present were commended for achieving Duke of Edinburgh Awards. This is a really valuable award that allows young people to develop confidence and self-sufficiency and is a great thing to have on their CV. Congratulations to Lydia Cole, Alysha Fairweather, Siobhan Quinn and James Stirling who have achieved their Bronze Award. Abbie Howard has achieved the Silver Award and three ex- SBA students; Lewis Coulter, Stanley Crawley and Jordan Strobach-Morris all achieved the Gold Award.

Jordan was one of the ex-students who came back to Sandown to talk to current Sixth Form students in the MEDROX group this week. We keep in touch with lots of ex-students who love to come back in and share their tips and experiences with current students. Jordan came back from Oxford University where he is studying Physics and Philosophy, Elspeth came back from Queen Mary University, Belfast where she is studying law and Edie came back from Nottingham University where she is studying medicine. They shared their experiences of their first term at university and gave helpful tips and advice.

Today was an important day for Year 11 students; they received their mock exam results in the same format that they will receive their real GCSE results in summer. Hopefully this process will motivate students to work harder and focus on areas that they are least confident in. We hope to see lots of parents at the upcoming Year 11 Parents’ evenings taking place on 15th and 22nd January, it is imperative that we work together to ensure that your child leaves Year 11 with the very best results.

Our vast range of sports clubs start on Monday, please encourage your children to try something new and make the most of the opportunities available to them (click here to see the list of sports clubs).

Enjoy your weekend
