Principal's Blog - Friday 9th June

posted 9 Jun 2017, 04:02 by Karen Bricknell

Ten of our most talented Year 8 linguists took part in the annual Able Linguists Event at the University of Southampton this week. Several state and independent schools from across Hampshire and the South East took part in this very popular event. Students took part in workshops in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Chinese. They had to work in groups to invent something and describe how it works in one of the chosen languages.

Three of our students won first prize in the Spanish category and two students won 3rd prize. Well done to all of the students involved!

First prize - Sy Hanson, Finley Reid and Joe Hodgkinson.
Third prize - Poppy Price, Tom Medas and Isaac Letheridge

Some of our High Performance Academy students from Year 9 went over to Broadlea Primary School to help them with the running of their annual sports day this week. They did a fantastic job and we received excellent feedback from staff at Broadlea who said they were outstanding.

AET are seeking views from students, parents, governors, staff and the local community about the proposed amalgamation between Ryde and Sandown Bay Academies. You can take part in the consultation process by clicking here to complete the questionnaire. Hard copies of the document and questionnaire are available in the Academy reception. The consultation process will run for 6 weeks up to 6 July 2017.

'Open space' events will be held at Sandown Bay Academy on Friday 16th June and Ryde Academy on Wednesday 14th June.  Members of AET staff will be on hand from 12.00 to 7.00pm on these days, to answer questions and to provide information in relation to the proposed amalgamation of the two academies.

Students, families and staff are invited to call into reception at any time convenient to you within these hours.

Enjoy your weekend,

Claire Charlemagne
