Principal's Blog - Friday 9th May

This week was one where we were recognised for our exceptional contribution to leadership development and volunteer deployment in the community. Sports Leaders UK awarded our good practice by granting us Leadership Academy status.  It is a fantastic achievement that we have secured this status and is a reflection of all the fantastic work that takes place with our sports leaders. The year 9 sports leaders showed outstanding organisation and were exceptional role models when running a cricket festival for pupils in Broadlea Primary school on Wednesday.

We have budding chefs in the academy; congratulations to 4 of our students who did amazingly well in the ‘Create and Cook’ competition at IOW College on Wednesday. Joe Doncaster and Alice Hyde came first and Finlay Wantsall and Ben Collins came second. They will now compete against schools in Hampshire in the next round of the competition in June.

I enjoyed judging ‘The big small talk’ last night; Oonagh and Neave Lyon, both from Broadlea Primary School were the winners. They spoke on public transport. They captivated their audience – with wit and charm. Under the tutelage of Roger Lyon their dad, the family won. They stole the show. All of the speakers were highly entertaining – we laughed until we cried! This was just the first SBA Big small talk, we will be holding others – so if you didn’t speak this time – you can join in next time – keep ‘Talking the Talk.’

Year 11 Presentation Evening took place on Wednesday evening; it was a great chance to celebrate the hard work and academic success of so many of the Year 11 students. I am sure that they will be working hard now to ensure they will also be celebrating when they open their results in the summer.
