Principal's Blog - Friday 9th September

posted 9 Sep 2016, 07:10 by Karen Bricknell   [ updated 9 Sep 2016, 07:14 ]

I was delighted to welcome back all of our students yesterday and to once again meet the new Year 7 students. It was great to see them looking so smart and ready for the year ahead. Our focus for the next fortnight is establishing high expectations with students. We will expect to see high standards in uniform, work ethic and participation in lessons and extra-curricular activities.  Please help us to support this by ensuring that your child comes to school every day in the correct uniform and with the right equipment to learn.

In line with our theme of high expectations, we have created a new Academy motto: Strive, Believe, Achieve. We want all of our students to work hard and believe in their potential so that they can achieve their goals.

In our parent survey last May, you identified the quality of Teaching to be an area you would like to see improved at the Academy. We have invested in a programme of professional development for all of our staff which will help them to deliver lessons that are engaging, exciting and ensure our students make good progress. Teachers have all completed two days of training and will do a third in November. It has been lovely to see some of the ideas for the training already taking place in lessons, and students have responded very well.

Martyn Heather, Head of Education at The Premier League came in today to speak to students in Year 10 and 11 about the importance of working hard. He delivered a powerful speech about how vital education and qualifications are. The key message was if you work hard and try your very best, you can succeed in anything.

Extensive building and improvement work has taken place over the summer holidays. There are now individual toilets in West Block, the mobile classrooms have been knocked down and the area has been turfed, MFL has moved into 4 newly renovated classrooms, Music has relocated to South, the roof has been repaired, there is new flooring in West and East blocks along with redecoration throughout the Academy. This programme of renovation will continue throughout the year so that we have a much improved learning environment for our students. We will be looking for students to become involved with a landscaping project for the newly created central courtyard area, so if your child has green fingers or is talented in design, please encourage them to sign up.

I look forward to meeting lots of parents at the Welcome to Key Stage events on Tuesday and Thursday next week.

Enjoy your weekend
