You will no doubt have seen some of the local press this week concerning funding and budget cuts at the Academy. I would like to reassure parents and carers that while we are faced with some difficult decisions to make within a limited budget, we are determined to make the very best decisions for the students and the school. The governing body met today as part of the restructure consultation process to determine our staffing structure for 2017-18. Once we have these plans finalised, we will share the details with you. In the meantime I would like to reassure you that the staff are working incredibly hard to make this the very best possible learning environment for our children. There is much to be proud of at Sandown Bay, and we are firmly committed to ensuring the very best for our students.

I was delighted to meet with a group of students this week from across all year groups who have volunteered to help revamp our Academy Code of Conduct. There were some excellent ideas put forward by the students and I look forward to sharing the finished article soon.

Today at breaktime a group of budding landscape designers met to start planning the redevelopment of the central quad area. I was thoroughly impressed with their ideas and look forward to seeing the final plans. They will be working with Mark Payne Landscape Design to come up with a design for the space that will provide a student-centred recreational area for students to enjoy.

Daniella from Earl Mountbatten Hospice came into Yellow House Assembly on Thursday to accept a cheque for £1900 raised through last year’s Yellow House Walk. She was incredibly grateful and encouraged students to sign up for both Yellow House Walk and Walk the Wight this year.

It was lovely to welcome Year 6 students into the Academy this week for their transition visits. They met up with their pen pal buddies and had a tour of the Academy, took part in some outdoor learning and found out more about their transition project to complete during the summer term.

Our next Parent Forum Meeting is taking place on Tuesday 4th April at 5.30pm, we welcome new members so if you would like to come along please email Karen Bricknell (

Enjoy your weekend
