We have had another busy week in the glorious sunshine at Sandown. I was pleased to meet the Year 6 students again this week and to see that they are confident, happy and excited to start with us in September.

Year 13 students enjoyed their end of term celebration last Friday evening, marking the end of their five years at Sandown Bay Academy. I wish them every success in the future, either at university or in employment. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

Year 10 and 11 students studying Applied Learning have worked hard this year setting up an allotment. They have been growing courgettes, marrows, beetroot, cabbages, cauliflowers, lettuce, sweetcorn and lots more! I am sure they will do very well when they take the produce to The Chale Show in August.

I hope that all of the students who spent this week in Arran taking part in a range of adventure activities had a good time. I hear the weather was slightly windier than the Isle of Wight.

This week we had seventy students taking part in the final High Performance Academy workshops of this year, the two day event involved beach volleyball with GB beach volleyball player Chris Gregory, fitness workshops with Melissa Hewison and athletics sessions with James Forman.  Feedback from the sporting guests was very positive; they were really impressed with the attitude and motivation of the students. On the second day students had focused workshops in their chosen sports specialism, these included golf, ice skating, cricket, rowing, football and athletics.

Congratulations to the U15 girls’ cricket team who retained their title as County Champions last night in the final against Ryde Academy held at Newclose Cricket Ground.

Well done to the SBA students who were competing in the island games this week and congratulations to Miss Church who won the gold medal in the hammer competition.

Next week is another busy week as we head into the last fortnight of term. Sixth Form induction starts on Monday, sports day is on Thursday and there is a mufti-day on Friday.

Enjoy your weekend.
