As a reward for winning the Go4Set (Science, Maths, Engineering and Technology) Challenge in July a group of Year 9 students enjoyed a day out to Warsash Maritime Academy at the end of last week. They were also joined by a few students in from upper school. The day gave them a valuable insight into careers in the maritime industry.

Sixth Form students spent an afternoon this week at GKN Aerospace; they are working on an exciting engineering project with mentors from the company to design aircraft wing tips.

On Wednesday 50 students went to Ryde Academy to compete in the Island Schools Cross-Country Championships, SBA was the best represented school on the island. The Inter-girls team came first, with 7 runners in the top 10. The senior girls’ and the senior boys’ teams also came first. 17 students were selected to represent the island at the Hampshire Schools Championships in January.

The Year 7 football team beat Carisbrooke College 8-4 and the Year 9 football team beat Priory 11-1.

Congratulations to ex-student Amber Pierce who collected her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award from St James Palace last week, this is a really impressive achievement and represents a long term commitment that Amber started while at SBA.

I was disappointed that I was on a course on the mainland on Tuesday so I did not get to see the Dance Show; however, I was very proud to hear lots of very positive feedback about what a fantastic showcase they put on.

Enjoy your weekend.
