Principal's Blog - Friday 7th March

This week I have witnessed some great examples of our students helping and supporting each other. I have been visiting the Year 7 and 8 students who are having guided reading sessions during their Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) time. Some are supported by sixth form students, some by Year 10 students and some by Learning Support Assistants. It was fantastic to see the younger students reading to their older peers and embracing the support.  The older students have taken the younger students under their wing and are providing excellent mentoring and guidance.

On Tuesday evening I was delighted to attend an award ceremony at The Quay Arts, where two of our students were awarded with a certificate from the High Sheriff, Mary Case. Jade Thomas was awarded for her fundraising for ‘Dreamflight.’ Jade has been working really hard, fundraising to ensure that other children get the chance of a dream holiday like she had following treatment for a brain tumour in 2010. Daniel Harris was awarded for his contributions to the classroom. He is a great role model for others and makes the best of every opportunity and gives his all to everything he does. Well done to Jade and to Daniel, we are very proud of you both for being excellent role models to other students in the Academy.

I am going home this weekend; it looks like I am going to miss seeing the beautiful island in the sunshine.  I hope you get to enjoy the sunshine and have a restful weekend.
