Geography at Sandown Bay Academy
The main value of Geography is that it teaches about the world we live in. Many transferable skills can be gained from Geography such as independent learning, literacy, numeracy, cartography and problem solving. Geography allows students to gain a clear, overall view of the world today. The development of ‘awe and wonder’ will allow students to fully appreciate and learn from the world around them.
Geography at KS3
At KS3 we study a variety of topics including; “A Passport to the World”, Natural Hazards, Kenya, and Global Ecosystems. GCSE students study the Edexcel B syllabus, this includes topics such as Natural Hazards, Coastal Environments and Urban Environments. A Level students study the Edexcel syllabus and study topics such as The World at Risk, Energy Security and Global Super Powers.
Field Trips
Field trips are an exciting part of Geography that all year groups have a chance to experience. Trips running this year include a three-day residential trip to Cornwall. Day trips include: The Natural History Museum, The London Eye, Portsmouth City Centre and the coastal environments of the Isle of Wight.
