TORCH is how we deliver the
6 Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
in the National Curriculum and is an important part
of learning in Years 7 and 8.
It is delivered through a range of tasks, workshops and projects, which are designed to feel very different from, but complement, the curriculum.
Students will apply knowledge and skills from other subject areas and develop vital knowledge and skills about themselves and their approach to working independently and with others. This can make a massive difference to their learning in and out of school and into the future.
Students will be designing, researching, interviewing, presenting, listening, writing, performing, baking, discussing, recording, planning, painting, developing, editing, running, evaluating, challenging, proof-reading, calculating, co-operating, problem-solving …
Students will make progress in the six PLTS :
SELF-MANAGER REFECTIVE LEARNER INDEPENDENT ENQUIRER
EFFECTIVE PARTICIPANT TEAM WORKER CREATIVE THINKER
Through the activities in the all-day session and the shorter workshop each fortnight, based in a range of spaces and learning areas in North School. Parents will receive information progress in TRACKING. A significant piece of homework, called the INDEPENDENT LEARNING TASK is set each half term.
