Academy Uniform

The compulsory Sandown Bay Academy uniform is as follows:

- Blazer with embroidered logo
- White open neck blouse
- Formal black trousers – see below for details
- Knee length, black pleated skirt
- Plain black v neck jumper (to be worn in addition to blazer)
- Plain black ankle socks
- Black or natural tights
- Polishable black shoes – see below for details
- A backpack or sturdy waterproof bag big enough to take A4 sized folders and kit.

For gender neutral uniform, a discussion should take place between the parent and Year Manager to accommodate the needs of the student.

Clothing

Blazers must be worn at all times unless permitted to do otherwise. Shirts/blouses should be tucked in. Students must not wear tight fitting/skinny trousers, jeans or leggings; trousers should be tailored and loose fitting. Belts should not be worn with a skirt. Skirts should sit no more than 4cm above the knee.

Some retail outlets do promote jeans as school uniform; trousers of a denim or similar material, those with back pockets or studs are not considered acceptable as part of our uniform policy. 

A plain black v-neck jumper can be worn in addition to the blazer when the weather is cold. Patterned jumpers/cardigans are not allowed. Hooded tops or hats are not allowed and should not be brought onto the school site. Only black scarves/pashminas are permitted within the Academy

Black leather polishable shoes with a heel must be worn by students (not greater than 2.5cm). No boots, high heels, plimsolls, canvas shoes or trainers. All stitching and/or laces in shoes must also be black.

Coats should be of a length suitable to cover the Blazer. All uniform items, excluding shoes and socks, should be purchased from the Sports Shop Shanklin or Big Wight T-Shirt Co. 

Presentation

Students may wear one stud earring in the lobe of each ear. Stretchers and other piercings are not allowed. Students should wear a watch. No other jewellery is allowed. Designs shaved into hair or shaved eyebrows are not allowed. Coloured hair extensions, excessive hair colouring and excessive hair accessories will not be permitted. Hair accessories should be discreet. Only discreet make up is allowed. Acrylic/gel nails or brightly coloured nail varnish will not be permitted.

Equipment and Electronic Items

Students must ensure that they have with them:

·        A school bag, big enough to carry a planner, books, a pencil case and an A4 folder.

·       2 x black pens

·       1 x pencil

·       1 x ruler

·       Calculator (preferably Scientific)

·       Rubber

·       Maths set

·       Reading book 

Mobile phones and electronic devices with headphones must not be switched on or visible on the Sandown Bay Academy site. If this rule is broken items will be confiscated and kept until parents come to collect them.

In years 7 and 8 students are encouraged to read a book at their accelerated reader level. Students in Years 7-11 are permitted to use e readers in school, however they must complete a request slip from the Year Manager. 

The school reserves the right, in all matters of dress and appearance, to determine what is suitable and acceptable.
