Interhouse

Join in.....Join in.....Join in.....Join in.....

Representing your house is a fantastic thing to do; to be part of a team and have fun in the process, regardless of the scores.

Students are always welcome to represent their house on Wednesdays after school, and to take part in the huge variety of extra-curricular activities, (both sporting and non-sporting) that are on offer at Sandown Bay Academy.

The Heads of House are:

Red House - Miss Jones

Green House - Miss Lowthian

Yellow House - Mr Lyon

Blue House - Mr Bricknell

Year 7 students from Sandown Bay Academy were fully embracing the House spirit when they took part in the first Interhouse competition of the year; for girls it was netball and for boys it was football.

The year 7 boys’ football competition had a fantastic turn out with 70% of the whole year group taking part. The 8 a-side round robin tournament was organised and officiated by Year 11 GCSE PE students Morgan Perrinn and Harry Ridley, as part of their practical leadership grade. The tournament was so close that 3 of the 4 houses could all still win the tournament going into the final round of matches, eventually won by Blue! The girls’ netball tournament was organised and officiated by two of Sandown’s Sixth Form netball coaches Steph Smith and Abbie Howard. Again, this was a thrilling encounter with Blue House marginal victors.

Mr Lyon, Head of Yellow House said:

I was really pleased to see so many of the new Year 7 students keen to get involved in the first interhouse competition. The House system is a key feature of life at Sandown Bay Academy; every student belongs to either Red, Green, Yellow or Blue House, the Houses promote competition, team building and a sense of community and belonging.’

Interhouse sporting competitions take place every week alongside other exciting activities including Spelling-Bee, Yellow House Walk, Sandown’s got Talent, Bake off and public speaking.
